It is a reservoir that was created in 1936 by the construction of the Norris Dam, the first hydroelectric project by the Tennessee Valley Authority at a cost of $36,000,000. The lake is the largest lake on a tributary of the Tennessee River. Their rentals include house boats, fishing boats, pontoon boats, ski boats, and jet skis. The dock store offers beer, ice, groceries, gas, bait, a rest room, a public phone, and an ATM machine.
